About the course

The course ran from 2006 to 2010 .

Under the professional leadership of Neil MacKenzie and Julia Batchelor-Walsh, there were daily rehearsals and workshops in preparation for an informal concert to an invited audience at the end of the week. There were also masterclasses for solo and small ensemble repertoire.

Vocal exercises, physical movement and good breathing technique were incorporated into all the sessions.

Masterclasses for solo singers were held, in which singers could sing pieces of their own choice and receive tuition from both Neil and Julia, in front of a friendly and supportive audience.

Individual singing lessons were also available.

Last year’s course covered works from Thomas Weelkes to Fauré, and also included:

JS Bach
Purcell
James McMillan
Parry
Lobet den Herrn
Excerpts from Dido and Aeneas
The Gallant Weaver
There is an Old Belief
